Gaybombs. 2011. Paper-mâché. Small: 29 x 12 x 12 cm, medium: 42 x 18 x 18 cm.
An installation of eight gaybombs was created for the exhibition Dirt Star 2011: Take Root, curated by Caitlin Sweet at the Luggage Store Annex / Tenderloin National Forest in San Francisco, June 2 - 19, 2011, as part of the National Queer Arts Festival. These sculptures reclaim the idea of an aphrodisiac weapon intended to cause homosexual behavior, proposed in 1994 by the U.S. Air Force Wright Laboratory. The largest bomb was a piñata full of silicone toys, latex gloves, condoms, lube samples, and other goodies donated by Vixen, Babeland, and Come As You Are. The glitter covering the pieces was donated by Lit Cosmetics. Watch a video of the gaybomb piñata exploding here. The installation of Gaybombs at the Take Root exhibition was made possible with support from the Ontario Arts Council, an agency of the Government of Ontario. Set of six available for exhibition or collection. Contact to inquire.
